Reservations for the Holy Land Are Being Taken

Reservations for the Holy Land trip are being made now. The twelve-day trip is scheduled for December 29 through January 9. Costs are calculated for a departure from Jackson. The best of hotels, transportation, and food, are included in the trip.

Both Israel and Jordan are part of the schedule. This year we have included Petra and Mount Nebo to the trip, which will add much to the experience of seeing where God’s people met God.

Numbers of pilgrims are at an all-time high. It behooves us to make our plans as soon as possible to assure the best of experiences. I hope you can go. Every Christian should go at least once in his/her lifetime. Pray about making 2008  a landmark year with an inspiring trip that will make your Bible come alive like
nothing else
.

Lloyd’s ♫♪♫♪

It’s spring time in the South again and it has been absolutely beautiful! Growing up in Kentucky, “spring” didn’t come until late April or May. There was a good chance of a frost, even in mid-May, so you didn’t dare plant delicate plants or gardens until after the middle of the month. Redbud and Dogwood “winters” were cold snaps that we watched for each year which indicated warm weather was soon on its way.

This was our first spring experience this far south and it was breath-taking. The Azaleas were some of the most beautiful and brilliant colors I have ever seen, and the flowering trees, especially the white ones, looked like they were covered with snow.

Then there are the sounds from God’s creatures. If you stop for a moment in the mornings, you’ll hear birds singing in continuous melodies and seemingly
harmonious with one another. Look closely and you’ll see squirrels rustling through the trees, jumping from limb to limb, honey bees buzzing as they search out nectar from the flowers. At night you can hear frogs from a nearby pond, dogs barking in the distance and maybe even an owl.

In Song of Solomon 2:11-13 we read of God’s creation in the spring: “For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree puts forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grapes give a good smell.” Genesis 2:9 says: “And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.”

I could go on describing God’s beautiful creation in nature around us, but the hymn “For the Beauty of the Earth” says it so poetically and the story behind its writing causes us even today to stop, look around us and listen to nature’s beauty.

Since Roman times the town of Bath, located on the banks of the Avon River in England, has been considered one of the most beautiful spots on the British Isles. Enclosed by an amphitheater of hills and blessed with warm springs, it has been both a pleasure resort and a health spa for the ailing.

Folliot Pierpoint was born in Bath, but went away to attend Cambridge       University, where he became a classical scholar and taught. But when he was twenty-nine years old he returned to his hometown of Bath. The beauty of the countryside in the late spring caused his heart to well up with emotion and inspired this hymn.

Each stanza thanks God for a different kind of beauty. In its original form it was a Communion hymn of eight stanzas. Each stanza concluded with the words “Christ our God, to thee we raise this our sacrifice of praise,” alluding to Hebrews 13:15.

As you savor the beauty of spring, and of all seasons, allow yourself to enjoy nature around you and worship the God who created all this beauty!

Kid’s Korner

A mother saw a thunderstorm forming in mid-afternoon; she worried about her 7 year-old daughter who would be walking the 3 blocks home from school. Deciding to meet her, the mother saw her daughter walking nonchalantly along, stopping to smile whenever lightning flashed. Seeing her mother, the little girl ran to her, explaining happily, "All the way home, God's been taking my picture!" God really is that much in love with us that He is constantly “taking our picture.” He is always looking at us and considering each of our specific needs and desires.  Sometimes as adults, we get so consumed by everyday life, that we don’t take the time to recognize God’s presence. I encourage you today, to step into His presence and find comfort.  The peace will come as you realize that you are not alone….He has not neglected you….but you must go to Him….He is waiting for you!

I am so excited to see God’s will come to life in our Children’s Ministry. Through these children we have such an opportunity to invest in furthering God’s Kingdom, long after our lives on this earth have ended.  What an investment to be made!

A Mother/Daughter Tea is planned for May 10, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall.  To bring ALL of our mothers and daughters together and grow a sweet new fellowship between the young and old is our goal of this Tea.   The event is for every mother and every daughter.  If your mother or daughter cannot attend, please come and enjoy the church family that God has provided for us.  There will be plenty of mothers and daughters to go around.  Please come and encourage everyone in your Sunday School class to attend. We look forward to seeing a large group come together and enjoy this event.

VBS will be here before we know it, JUNE 16 - 20. “Outrigger Island: Living God’s Unshakable Truth” is this year’s theme with Psalm 86:11 as the support Scripture.   Our supply lists must be turned in by Sunday, May 25. Finding the needed supplies will be much easier if everyone can get their supply list to me as quickly as possible.

We had an awesome meeting at FBC; everyone came away very inspired and encouraged about the opportunities that God has allowed us through VBS 2008.  Our next meeting will be Sunday, June 1, at 5:00 PM.  We will meet in the large room on the 4th floor.  Everyone who has signed up to teach or is interested in volunteering is encouraged to attend.  We will discuss any changes that may need to be made or adjustments from our previous meeting.

Reservations have been made for the people who contacted me about the  July 14 - 18 Centri-Kid. There is a waiting list for others who might be interested.

There is a lot going on and I am available for any questions or suggestions.  Please feel free to call me about the children or any of these activities. You can reach me at the church office during the week or on my cell phone 601-880-1813.
